NCCSALW SEIZES 16,000 ILLEGAL ARMS IN 4 YEARS

Nigeria steps up fight against insecurity as NCCSALW reports major crackdown on illicit weapons across the country.

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) has seized and destroyed 16,000 illegal arms and light weapons over the past four years, the Centre’s Director-General, Johnson Kokumo, announced during a visit to the North-West Zonal Office in Kaduna.

Kokumo said the initiative targets the proliferation of small arms, a key driver of banditry, insurgency, and violent crimes. He stressed that intelligence-led operations and collaboration with security agencies remain central to curbing illicit weapons.

The North-West Zonal Office covers Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara. Jibril Mukhtar described the DG’s visit as a morale boost and credited arms seizures with contributing to recent relative calm in the region.

Kokumo also met with the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs and the Nigerian Air Force Air Training Command, emphasizing inter-agency collaboration and community engagement. He inspected the ongoing construction of a permanent North-West office to improve coordination and rapid response.
