GAMBARI RETURNS TO U.S. CAMPUS, KICKS OFF MEMOIR PROJECT

After years at the heart of Nigerian governance and global diplomacy, Ibrahim Gambari is back in academia and ready to tell his story.

Former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has arrived at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, United States to resume duties as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar.

Gambari says he has already begun work on his memoir, documenting decades of experience in diplomacy, governance and international relations. He was received on arrival by Prof. Wale Adebanwi.

His appointment at the Center for Africana Studies runs from January to August 2026 and was approved by the university’s School of Arts and Sciences. Alongside teaching and research, the veteran diplomat will focus on writing his life story.

Gambari — a former UN Under-Secretary-General and founder of the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development — is expected to draw from decades of global public service and scholarship for the memoir.
