Tax specialists say simpler filing and public awareness are key to boosting compliance under Nigeria’s new tax reforms.
Tax experts at the National Policy Dialogue on Tax Reform in Abuja called for stronger digital infrastructure and grassroots education to help Nigerians navigate the TaxPro Max system.
Prof. Henry Egharevba highlighted login difficulties on TaxPro Max, urging the Nigeria Revenue Service to make filing as seamless as online banking.
Ms. Yewande Ogundipe stressed that taxpayers face hurdles retrieving tax clearance certificates, proposing regular forums and public enlightenment campaigns to simplify the process.
Mr. Okorie Ikechukwu-Raphael noted that many traders struggle due to literacy challenges, urging the government to extend filing deadlines and adopt simpler templates for market operators.
Author Tajudeen Toyinoke explained that his Nigerian Tax Survival Guide clarifies exemptions under the new law, including zero tax for businesses earning below N100 million and minimum wage earners.
Experts agreed that improving tax systems and educating citizens would strengthen compliance and contribute to national development.
