Orile-Agege LCDA is taking waste management to the next level, giving PSP operators the financial boost to keep the council clean.
The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area has disbursed N96 million in soft loans to eight Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators, giving each N12 million to strengthen waste collection and sanitation services. Executive Chairman Mr. Idowu Akinola said the loans, repayable over 12 months after a grace period, aim to improve operational efficiency and ensure a cleaner environment.
The initiative involves collaboration with community groups, LAWMA, and residents, alongside enforcement measures to curb indiscriminate dumping. LAWMA’s PSP representative praised the council’s strategic approach, noting that several other local governments are interested in replicating the model.
Dr. Olubenga Adebola of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria described the programme as innovative, emphasizing that proper support for operators can transform waste into a valuable resource. Residents are also being urged to comply with sanitation rules, with enforcement set to intensify in the coming days.
The empowerment is expected to enhance PSP operational capacity, improve waste collection, and promote a cleaner, healthier environment in Orile-Agege LCDA.
