Taking agriculture closer to the grassroots, Ondo is putting extension workers on wheels to reach farmers faster and grow food production.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has rolled out 70 motorcycles to livestock extension officers under the Livestock Productivity Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project to strengthen agricultural services across the state.
Flagging off the distribution in Akure, the governor said the move targets better service delivery, improved food security and higher agricultural productivity. With many farmers in remote communities previously hard to reach, the bikes are expected to help officers respond quickly to field challenges and deliver modern livestock and farming support where it’s needed most.
The initiative also aligns with the state’s plan to shift farmers from subsistence to commercial agriculture while attracting young people into the sector. Officials stressed the motorcycles are strictly for official duties and will be monitored to ensure proper use.
Agriculture leaders say improved mobility will close long-standing gaps between government programmes and rural farmers, helping boost livestock production and strengthen the state’s agricultural value chain.
