Nigeria’s NDLEA has earned international recognition for its maritime drug enforcement efforts, after its officers participated in the North Sea and Channel Maritime Information Group meeting in the United Kingdom.
The agency, represented as the only African country at the conference, showcased its growing operational capacity, professionalism, and strategic relevance in global counter-narcotics efforts, according to NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa.
The event allowed NDLEA’s Maritime Intelligence Officers to engage in joint operations with the UK Border Force, learn advanced interdiction techniques, and strengthen intelligence-sharing frameworks. This, Marwa noted, would significantly boost Nigeria’s ability to disrupt drug trafficking along waterways and maritime corridors.
Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Aminu Jega, said the conference also provided a platform to present NDLEA’s operational achievements, attracting positive feedback from European and UK maritime security stakeholders.
“The NDLEA will continue to leverage such platforms to improve operational efficiency and achieve its mandate,” Marwa said, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to global partnerships against transnational crime.
