NAN, RISK MANAGERS TEAM UP TO FIGHT MISINFORMATION IN NIGERIA

A new alliance is forming to tackle fake news, poor risk planning and costly mistakes across the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria and the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria are joining forces to boost risk awareness and curb misinformation nationwide.

During a visit in Abuja, NAN’s Managing Director Ali M. Ali said the agency’s wide network of bureaux across Nigeria—and even abroad—will help push public education campaigns on risk management and responsible information sharing. With over 400 reporters and partnerships with global media like Reuters, NAN says it’s ready to strengthen credible reporting and counter false narratives.

RIMSON President Dr. Abbas Idris said the collaboration aims to expand risk management beyond banking and insurance into governance, cybersecurity, crisis communication and disaster preparedness. He warned that poor risk planning often leads to abandoned projects and avoidable losses.

Both organisations plan joint training, research and knowledge sharing, with a national conference already scheduled for late April in Abuja.
