KAFIN ZAKI DAM CONSTRUCTION RESUMES AFTER 40 YEARS

After four decades, the long-abandoned Kafin Zaki dam in Bauchi is finally getting a second chance to boost agriculture and water supply.

The Hadeja-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority has restarted work on the Kafin Zaki dam in Ningi LGA, Bauchi State. Managing Director Rabiu Bichi said the project, originally launched under the Babangida era, was halted shortly after it began but is now back on track with support from the Bauchi State Government.

Efforts are underway to resettle residents affected by the decades-long abandonment, while the dam’s completion is expected to enhance irrigation, water supply, and agriculture, unlocking the region’s agricultural potential and addressing water management challenges in northeastern Nigeria.
