In a move aimed at tackling youth unemployment at the grassroots, a member of the House of Representatives, Babajimi Benson, has facilitated federal employment for 22 young people from his constituency in Lagos State.
The beneficiaries, drawn from Ikorodu Federal Constituency, were formally presented with their appointment letters on Thursday after what was described as a structured and credible selection process. The jobs cut across various Federal Government agencies.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, the selection prioritised residency and active connection to Ikorodu rather than ancestral origin — a move described as a deliberate effort to promote inclusivity and fairness in representation.
Notably, the majority of the beneficiaries are women, reinforcing the lawmaker’s commitment to gender inclusion and youth empowerment.
Twenty of the successful candidates were selected through the icarejob.ng platform — a digital initiative designed to build a reliable database of qualified youths within the constituency — while two others emerged through a random selection process.
The employment drive was also linked to the youth-focused policies of President Bola Tinubu, with assurances that more opportunities would be facilitated in the near future.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to expanding access to federal jobs and empowering young people, stressing that sustainable development begins with giving youths the opportunity to thrive.
