ANA URGES REGULAR COPYRIGHT SENSITISATION FOR AUTHORS

The Association of Nigerian Authors wants writers to stay ahead of copyright rules—and fight piracy—through ongoing education.

Dr. Usman-Oladipo Akanbi, ANA President, has called on the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) to run regular sensitisation programmes for authors. He said continuous awareness helps writers comply with the Copyright Act and reduces infringements, especially as digital platforms and social media pose growing threats to intellectual property.

Akanbi highlighted ANA’s strong partnership with the NCC, noting that copyright violation cases are often referred to the commission. He urged authors to cooperate and share information that can curb book piracy and ensure creators get recognition and revenue from their work, online and offline.

The Copyright Act grants creators exclusive rights over their works for the author’s lifetime plus 70 years, protecting them against unauthorized use.
