Lagos State’s top cop says keeping the city safe isn’t just the police’s job—citizens must step up too!
The Fatai Tijani, Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, urged residents to actively support law enforcement, stressing that effective policing relies on community participation.
Speaking at a security stakeholders’ meeting in Ikeja during National Police Week 2026, Tijani said timely reporting of suspicious activities is crucial: “We cannot be everywhere at the same time. If you see something unusual, report it promptly.”
He highlighted growing youth involvement in social vices like cultism and called on parents and community leaders to guide young people with positive values.
The CP also warned against electoral violence as elections approach, reminding political actors and residents to maintain peace: “Lagos has maintained relative peace, and we must work together to preserve it.”
Ahead of Easter celebrations, Tijani reassured Lagosians that officers would be strategically deployed across churches and public spaces, emphasizing that safety remains a top priority.
He concluded with a strong appeal for continued citizen cooperation: “We will do everything to keep Lagos safe, but maintaining peace requires all of us working together.”
