ADC DIASPORA RAISES ALARM OVER INEC MOVE ON PARTY LEADERSHIP

A fresh political storm is brewing as ADC’s diaspora chapter questions the timing and implications of INEC’s decision amid an ongoing court battle.

The U.S. chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for removing the David Mark–led National Working Committee from its portal while the leadership dispute is still in court.

INEC, through National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna, said the move follows court rulings directing parties to maintain the status quo, referencing cases before the Court of Appeal Nigeria and the Federal High Court of Nigeria involving David Mark.

But ADC diaspora leaders say taking such action during litigation raises concerns about due process and institutional independence. They urged transparency and respect for democratic procedures while the case is ongoing.

The group also called on prominent national figures — including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ibrahim Babangida, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and Aliyu Gusau — to help strengthen democratic institutions.

They urged the National Assembly Nigeria to maintain oversight and asked the United Nations to monitor developments in Nigeria’s democratic space, pledging to pursue lawful channels to resolve the crisis.
