Nigerian troops crush coordinated ISWAP assault, sending insurgents fleeing and recovering arms in a major victory for security forces.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated early Saturday attack by ISWAP on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Borno’s Sector 2, killing 38 insurgents.
Lt.-Col. Sani Uba said the “half-hearted” assault was met with a coordinated defensive-offensive operation, backed by air support and intelligence, forcing the terrorists into a disorderly retreat. Pursuing the insurgents along Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis, troops recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPGs, and other ammunition.
No troops were killed, though one MRAP vehicle was hit. Local intelligence confirmed over 30 additional insurgent bodies and abandoned weapons, boosting morale in surrounding communities. The military commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them to maintain pressure on insurgents.
