From daily walks to early screenings, a health advocate is calling on Nigerians to take charge of their health before illness strikes.
Mr Lorenz Mba, a health advocate, urged Nigerians to move from reactive to preventive healthcare during the sixth edition of the “Let’s Waka with Q-Life and HEI” road walk in Lagos. The event, organised by Waka Community International Foundation with Q-Life Family Clinic and Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), also honoured renowned medical expert Dr Ade Alakija.
Mba highlighted that life-threatening conditions like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and glaucoma often show no early symptoms, making regular check-ups and lifestyle changes critical. He stressed that walking, proper nutrition, hydration, and adequate sleep are cost-effective ways to reduce risks of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
He also emphasized the importance of men’s health awareness, noting that neglecting early signs can cause emotional strain and even affect family health—linking prostate cancer in men to higher breast cancer risks in female relatives.
The event featured free health screenings, reinforcing early diagnosis and community engagement. With over 58,000 members in 48 countries, the Waka initiative aims to make health a personal and collective responsibility, boosting national productivity and economic growth.
