A new research push aims to connect Africa’s ancient trade routes with today’s development goals.
Federal University of Transportation Daura has inaugurated a 10-member research team to kick-start a major Trans-Saharan route and trade project designed to shape the institution’s research direction.
The team, constituted by Vice-Chancellor Umar Adam-Katsayal, will be led by Principal Investigator Yakubu Ocheifu-Aboki, former Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.
According to the VC, the project will develop a comprehensive research framework exploring the historical dynamics of Trans-Saharan trade and how they can inform modern African development and transportation systems.
The team is expected to collaborate with experts from Nigeria, West Africa and other Pan-African institutions through fieldwork, panels and working sessions, while racing to meet project timelines.
Ocheifu-Aboki assured the university leadership that the team is fully committed to delivering impactful research that aligns with the university’s transportation focus.
