FG EVACUATES 1,230 STRANDED NIGERIANS FROM NIGER REPUBLIC

Two rescue flights, one mission — bringing Nigerians safely back home.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has repatriated 1,230 stranded Nigerians from the Republic of Niger, reaffirming its commitment to citizens abroad.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the evacuees arrived in two batches — 708 on March 23 and 522 on March 29 — in an operation supported by the International Organization for Migration.

A multi-agency team received the returnees in Kano, including officials from the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and IDPs, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, National Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, International Committee of the Red Cross, Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, alongside the Kano State Government and Katsina State Government.

After profiling, the evacuees were sheltered at the Immigration Training School in Kano before being reunited with their families. The government also thanked Niger authorities for their cooperation and urged Nigerians abroad to stay law-abiding and maintain contact with Nigerian missions.
