DRIVER TO EMIR’S WIFE GRANTED BAIL OVER JEWELLERY THEFT

A driver linked to the wife of Kano’s 16th Emir is out on bail after admitting to stealing jewellery and cash worth N60 million.

Suleiman Yakubu, driver to Sadiya Ado-Bayero, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s first wife, was granted N10 million bail by a Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He, along with Idris Uba-Musa and Abdullahi Hassan, faces charges of conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.

Prosecutor Abubakar Ibrahim said Yakubu trespassed into the wife’s room on March 16, stealing jewellery, N500,000, and a Samsung phone. Yakubu pleaded guilty, while his co-defendants pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Hadiza Abdurahman ordered that one surety must be a family member and the other a civil servant Grade Level 15+, adjourning the case to April 13 for hearing.
