A pre-dawn attack on a military base ended in heavy losses for insurgents after troops launched a fierce counteroffensive backed by air support.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a multi-front ISWAP attack on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Borno State.
The military says soldiers responded with a coordinated ground and air operation, forcing the terrorists into a chaotic retreat and neutralising 38 insurgents. Intelligence reports suggest even more casualties along the escape routes.
Weapons recovered from the scene include AK-47 rifles, RPG bombs and ammunition. No troop fatalities were recorded, though an MRAP vehicle was hit and injured personnel were treated.
The operation has boosted morale in nearby communities, with further missions ongoing to track fleeing fighters and recover more equipment.
