TRAGEDY IN KWARA: FIRE SERVICE RECOVERS 2 BODIES FROM QUARRY LAKE

What started as a routine day turned tragic as two young men drowned in a dangerous quarry lake in Kwara.

The Kwara State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two young men who drowned in a quarry lake in Asa LGA of Kwara State.

The victims, identified as Fatai Abdulraman (26) and Muhammed Awal (27), were pulled out after firefighters responded swiftly to a distress call at the Opete area.

According to the agency’s spokesperson Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the rescue team arrived promptly and carried out a recovery operation before handing over the bodies to the family for burial.

Reacting to the incident, Fire Service Director Alabi Muhammed expressed condolences and issued a strong warning against swimming in quarry lakes, describing them as deep, unstable, and extremely dangerous.

He also urged communities to restrict access to such hazardous sites and report emergencies quickly to avoid further loss of lives.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers in abandoned water bodies.
