Nigeria’s secondary education system may be getting a digital upgrade—as National Senior Secondary Education Commission turns to United Nations Children’s Fund for support.*
The NSSEC is pushing for stronger collaboration with UNICEF to improve data collection, digital literacy, and technical skills in senior secondary schools across the country.
Executive Secretary Iyela Ajayi says better data systems are key to smarter planning and stronger education outcomes—but funding gaps and low awareness remain major hurdles.
Beyond data, the commission is also eyeing support to expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), equipping students with practical skills in areas like renewable energy and digital entrepreneurship.
Ajayi also highlighted the need for modern learning tools such as virtual labs and adaptive platforms, alongside safer, more inclusive schools—especially for girls and vulnerable groups.
On its part, UNICEF, through education chief Vanessa Lee, signalled readiness to partner, offering digital tools to track learning progress and build teachers’ capacity.
The goal? A smarter, safer, and more future-ready education system.
