Nigeria is strengthening global partnerships to tackle piracy and maritime threats in one of the world’s busiest shipping corridors.
The Nigerian Navy is pushing for deeper collaboration with Denmark to boost security in the Gulf of Guinea.
Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, made the call during talks with Danish Ambassador Jen Hansen in Abuja, highlighting plans for a Combined Maritime Task Force (CMTF).
The proposed multinational force—set to launch by mid-2026—aims to strengthen surveillance, improve coordination, and respond faster to threats like piracy and illegal activities in the region.
Abbas said the Gulf remains critical to global trade and shipping, stressing Nigeria’s commitment to keeping its waters safe for economic activities. He also invited Denmark to participate in upcoming naval exercises to deepen cooperation.
In response, Denmark praised Nigeria’s progress and signaled readiness to expand maritime security ties, reinforcing a growing partnership between both countries.
Bottom line: more collaboration, stronger presence, safer waters.
