FUEL CRISIS BITES: OVER 400 GAS STATIONS SHUT DOWN IN PHILIPPINES

Soaring fuel prices are forcing hundreds of gas stations to close, raising fears of shortages and market manipulation.

The Philippine National Police says more than 400 gas stations across the country have shut down operations as fuel prices continue to surge.

PNP spokesperson Randulf Tuano revealed that closures have jumped sharply from 273 on March 18 to 403, sparking concerns about supply stability.

Authorities say over 14,000 fuel stations are being monitored nationwide, with current supplies expected to last until mid-April.

The police have also launched investigations into illegal fuel activities, including hoarding, profiteering, and unauthorised sales, working closely with the Department of Energy.

Officials suspect that some of the shutdowns may be linked to price manipulation, prompting intensified surveillance across the sector.

The development highlights the growing pressure of global fuel costs on local economies and consumers.
