Fresh خونshed in Kwara South as gunmen shift focus to local defenders, raising fears of deeper insecurity.
Tension is rising in Kwara State after suspected bandits killed two local hunters in Ifelodun LGA, in what residents describe as a dangerous new tactic—targeting community security operatives.
The attack happened along the Oro-Ago–Oke-Oyan route, where the hunters were escorting a convoy before coming under heavy gunfire. The attackers killed two of them and fled with their motorcycles, while others narrowly escaped after a brief gun battle.
Residents say the pattern is alarming, warning that bandits now appear to have insider information about local vigilantes and are deliberately trying to weaken grassroots security.
“This is no longer random. They are hunting those protecting us,” a source said.
The incident comes just days after another attack in the area, where gunmen stormed an ECWA church and abducted worshippers—highlighting a growing security crisis in Kwara South.
Security advocate Olaitan Zubair had earlier raised alarm over looming threats, criticising what he called a slow response from authorities.
With fear spreading across communities, residents and leaders are now demanding urgent deployment of more security forces to prevent further attacks.
