AU NAMES KIKWETE HIGH REPRESENTATIVE FOR HORN OF AFRICA

Africa taps experience for peace—former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete takes the lead in stabilizing the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.

The African Union Commission has appointed Jakaya Kikwete as High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. The announcement was made by AUC Chairperson Mahmoud Youssouf.

Kikwete’s role will focus on preventive diplomacy, inclusive political dialogue, confidence-building among stakeholders, and strengthening regional cooperation to foster sustainable peace. He will coordinate with key regional and international partners, including Intergovernmental Authority on Development”], East African Community of Arab States”,”regional organization”], and the United Nations.

Youssouf expressed confidence that Kikwete’s leadership and experience will advance peace, stability, and prosperity in one of Africa’s most strategically important regions.
