AKWA IBOM, NETHERLANDS JOIN FORCES TO REVAMP AGRICULTURE

From greenhouses to dairy systems, Akwa Ibom is teaming up with the Netherlands to drive a new era of smart farming.

The Akwa Ibom State government is set to partner with Netherlands to boost agriculture and unlock new opportunities in agro-tech and food production.

The deal was unveiled at the Agrofood Fair Nigeria in Lagos by Helen Eno-Obareki, who said the state is looking to tap into Dutch expertise in greenhouse farming, dairy production, and sustainable agriculture.

She described the Netherlands as a global leader in agro-innovation, noting that Akwa Ibom aims to blend “Dutch precision with local passion” under its development blueprint.

Backed by Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, the state is already rolling out major projects—including solar-powered water systems across communities, a 50-hectare Ibom Model Farm, and an agricultural equipment leasing scheme to support farmers.

Eno-Obareki also highlighted efforts to empower women, who play a key role in the rural economy, ensuring they are not left behind in the shift to modern, tech-driven agriculture.

She assured investors that Akwa Ibom offers a peaceful, business-friendly environment with strong infrastructure, positioning the state as a hub for international agro-investment.

With both sides eyeing collaboration in greenhouse clusters and dairy value chains, the partnership is expected to boost food security and drive sustainable growth.
