UN WARNS ISRAEL–U.S. STRIKES ON IRAN COULD SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL

The UN is raising the alarm over escalating military strikes in Iran, warning that the conflict could quickly spin into a wider global crisis.

The United Nations has warned that ongoing bombing campaigns by the United States and Israel in Iran risk creating an “uncontrollable situation” if not urgently halted.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged all sides to step back from escalation, calling for an immediate end to strikes and warning of rising civilian suffering across the region.

He also appealed to Iran to stop attacks on neighbouring Gulf states, stressing that they are not directly involved in the conflict.

According to the UN, recent strikes on energy infrastructure—including gas facilities—have already triggered sharp increases in global energy prices, with knock-on effects threatening vulnerable countries.

There are also growing concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, with calls for Iran to halt threats and ensure safe passage.

Guterres warned that continued escalation could deepen humanitarian and economic fallout, especially in developing nations already under pressure from supply chain shocks.

“The force of law must prevail over the law of force,” he said, urging a return to diplomacy before the crisis expands further.
