TINUBU RALLIES GOVERNORS ON SECURITY AS GLOBAL CRISIS THREATENS ECONOMY

President warns of rising insecurity and fresh economic pressure, calls for united action to protect Nigerians.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged state governors to step up collaboration with the Federal Government as Nigeria faces rising security challenges and potential economic strain from global tensions.

Speaking on Sunday at an Eid-el-Fitr gathering in Lagos with Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 governors, Tinubu said insecurity is now the next major focus of his administration.

He warned that criminal activities remain a serious barrier to development, stressing that new strategies are already being deployed to strengthen national security.

Tinubu also revealed that recent diplomatic engagements in the United Kingdom and discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron were centred on securing international support, including equipment and technical assistance to boost Nigeria’s security capacity.

Beyond security concerns, the President cautioned that ongoing unrest in the Middle East could trigger inflation and reduce Nigerians’ purchasing power, urging leaders to prioritise support for vulnerable citizens.

“We should care more for the vulnerable,” he said, calling on governors to implement policies that ease hardship, especially in energy and transportation.

In response, Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, pledged continued cooperation with the Federal Government, noting that discussions on state police are advancing.

He described the meeting as a united front to tackle insecurity and strengthen governance across the country.
