TERROR IN CHURCH: GUNMEN ABDUCT WORSHIPPERS IN KWARA, 3 ESCAPE

Sunday service turns chaotic as armed attackers strike, leaving five still in captivity.

Gunmen on Sunday stormed the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in Omugo, Kwara State, abducting eight worshippers during a service.

According to the state government, the attackers fired sporadically to scare the congregation before whisking away victims. Thankfully, three of those kidnapped managed to escape, while five others remain in captivity.

Kwara Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly assault on a place of worship, and called for swift justice.

Security agencies, alongside local vigilantes and forest guards, have launched a rescue operation, with joint police and military patrols currently tracking the perpetrators.

Police authorities confirmed the incident, noting that most of the victims are elderly, heightening concerns over their safety.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and bring those responsible to justice.
