NAVY IN ACTION: 7 RESCUED AFTER BOAT CRASH IN BAYELSA

A swift response by naval forces saved lives after a dramatic boat collision in Bayelsa waterways.

The Nigerian Navy has rescued seven people following a collision between a Tantita patrol boat and a wooden market boat in the Ogboinbiri waterways of Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State.

According to Navy spokesperson, Abiodun Folorunsho, the rescue operation was launched immediately after a distress call. Personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS SOROH, were deployed to the scene, leading to the successful recovery of the victims.

The rescued individuals were quickly taken to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment, while search efforts continue for others still missing.

Folorunsho said the operation reflects the Navy’s strong commitment to protecting lives in Nigeria’s maritime space, in line with the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas.

He also highlighted recent rescue efforts, including saving passengers from sea robbery, evacuating crew from a burning vessel, and rescuing kidnapped victims in past operations.

The Navy reassured Nigerians of its readiness to respond swiftly to maritime emergencies and uphold global safety standards.
