A quiet walk home turned into a nightmare as police swoop in to arrest suspect.

Police in Enugu State have arrested a 24-year-old man, Desmond Ugwu, over the alleged attempted murder and rape of a pregnant woman in Affa community, Udi LGA.

According to police spokesman SP Daniel Ndukwe, the 30-year-old victim was walking home on March 14 when she was ambushed from behind by the suspect, who was armed with a cutlass.

She was reportedly strangled, silenced, and dragged into an uncompleted building where the suspect threatened to kill her before assaulting her.

The victim reported the incident the next morning, triggering a swift police response that led to the suspect’s arrest. She has since received medical care, while officers recovered key evidence from the scene.

Police say the suspect has confessed, and he will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
