EID-EL-FITR: CAN CALLS FOR UNITY, ‘NATIONAL RESET’ AMID CHALLENGES

Nigeria’s Christian body says Eid should spark more than celebration—it’s time for a collective reset toward unity and progress.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Fitr season as a turning point for national unity and renewal in the face of economic and security challenges.

In a message by its President, Daniel Okoh, the group congratulated Muslims on completing Ramadan, describing the period as one of spiritual growth and renewal.

CAN said the values of kindness, sacrifice, and care for the vulnerable demonstrated during Ramadan should guide efforts to heal divisions and strengthen national cohesion.

Acknowledging the country’s current struggles, the body stressed that Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength—not a source of division.

It called on citizens to reject hate, embrace dialogue, and work together across religious and ethnic lines for a shared future.

The association also joined Muslims in praying for peace, improved security, economic recovery, and wisdom for leaders, urging ethical governance and collective responsibility.

“Let this Eid be more than a celebration—let it be a reset for our national conscience,” Okoh said.
