EDO IRS WARNS TAXPAYERS: FILE RETURNS BEFORE MARCH 31 OR FACE PENALTIES

Edo State revenue agency says tax compliance is compulsory as deadline approaches.

The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has urged residents to file their annual tax returns on or before March 31, warning that defaulters will face penalties.

In a statement issued in Benin, Executive Chairman John Odior stressed that tax filing is a legal and civic duty that applies to employees, business owners, professionals, online traders, and informal sector workers.

He said failure to comply, submit incomplete details, or ignore filing obligations would attract administrative sanctions under existing tax laws, including the 1999 Constitution and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.

To ease compliance, Odior said the agency has introduced an e-filing platform, allowing taxpayers to complete their returns conveniently from home or office.

He also reminded residents that taxes remain crucial to Edo State’s development and infrastructure growth.

Taxpayers are advised to use the official IRS portal or visit designated offices for assistance where needed.
