As AI tools take over classrooms, an ICT expert is raising concerns about a growing “shortcut culture” among students.
An ICT expert, Abiona Solomon, is cautioning students against over-relying on Artificial Intelligence, warning that it could weaken their ability to think independently.
Speaking in Ilorin, Solomon said many students now depend heavily on AI tools for assignments and research, a trend he believes is killing critical thinking and encouraging academic laziness.
“Students are no longer challenging themselves—they’re looking for shortcuts,” he said, noting that the issue cuts across all levels of education.
He urged students to first attempt solving problems on their own before turning to AI, stressing that real learning comes from practice and intellectual effort.
While acknowledging AI as a powerful and helpful tool that simplifies research and exposes users to global knowledge, Solomon warned against abusing its benefits.
His advice: use AI smartly—but don’t let it replace your brain.
