Real Madrid have been hit with another major injury setback as star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is ruled out for several weeks, including a key Champions League clash.
Thibaut Courtois has been sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a muscle injury in his right quadriceps, the club confirmed on Thursday following medical tests.
The setback means the Belgian shot-stopper will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final showdown against Bayern Munich, adding to an already growing injury list at the club.
A statement from Real Madrid revealed the injury is to the rectus femoris muscle, with his condition currently being monitored by the medical team.
Courtois joins a long list of injured stars including Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Éder Militão, deepening Real Madrid’s fitness worries at a crucial stage of the season.
In his absence, Andriy Lunin is expected to take over goalkeeping duties, starting with Sunday’s LaLiga derby against Atletico Madrid.
