CATHOLIC BISHOPS CELEBRATE EID-EL-FITR, CALL FOR UNITY AND NATIONAL HEALING

Christian leaders have joined Muslims in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr, urging Nigerians to turn shared faith values into real national unity.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria has sent warm greetings to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, calling for deeper peace, brotherhood, and national healing across the country.

In a message released by its president, Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso of Kaduna, the bishops commended Muslims for their discipline, sacrifice, and devotion during Ramadan, describing the fasting period as a strong expression of faith and spiritual commitment.

He noted with emphasis that this year’s fasting period was unique, as Christians and Muslims in Nigeria began their Lenten and Ramadan fasts on the same day—calling it a “symbolic convergence” that highlights shared values of prayer, sacrifice, and reliance on God.

According to him, this rare overlap is a reminder that both faiths are united by a common pursuit of peace, righteousness, and moral renewal.

The archbishop urged Nigerians to move beyond peaceful coexistence and embrace true brotherhood, especially at a time when the country faces social and economic challenges.

He prayed that the spiritual lessons of Ramadan would strengthen compassion, purify intentions, and inspire unity among citizens.

Ndagoso also called on leaders to be guided by justice and the common good, asking for divine protection and blessings for all Nigerians.
