1 Division pushes sharper strategy and inter-agency coordination to tackle North-West security challenges.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, has flagged off the 2026 Operations Planning Cadre, aimed at strengthening the planning and decision-making skills of Nigerian Army officers.
Speaking at the opening in Kaduna, Wase—also Commander of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA—said the training is designed to improve operational effectiveness in a region still grappling with complex security threats, especially in the North-West.
He noted that modern military success depends not just on strength, but on clear planning, coordination, and the ability to adapt to fast-changing security environments.
According to him, the programme will equip officers with key tools such as operational planning processes, tactical estimates, operational art, and inter-agency collaboration strategies.
Wase also stressed the need for stronger synergy among the military, Nigeria Police, DSS, and NSCDC, saying joint efforts are essential for successful operations.
“You will plan alongside sister agencies whose cooperation is essential to operational success,” he said.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shu’aibu, for driving reforms aimed at building a more professional and resilient Army, and urged participants to make full use of the week-long lectures and interactive sessions.
The cadre officially marks another push by the Army to improve battlefield coordination and strategic execution in ongoing operations.
