ANAMBRA SET FOR 24-HOUR POWER AS FIRSTPOWER UNVEILS MASSIVE SUPPLY PLAN

Electricity supply in parts of Anambra may soon get a major boost as FirstPower moves to roll out round-the-clock power to key estates and industrial zones.

The FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Ltd has announced plans to begin 24-hour electricity supply in selected parts of Anambra State as part of efforts to improve power reliability and support economic growth.

The company’s Chief Technical Officer, Dr Emeka Egbujor, disclosed this at its annual customers’ engagement meeting in Awka, saying arrangements have been concluded to supply Udoka Estate and Ngozika Estate with about 10 megawatts of power round the clock.

He added that similar arrangements are in place for Nnewi industrial users, including Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company and other manufacturers, under a plan expected to run on a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) power system.

According to him, the project is expected to be completed within six to eight months and will significantly improve overall electricity availability in the state.

The Managing Director, Okechukwu Okafor, said the company is working to “change the narrative” on power supply in Anambra, noting that the state remains a key economic hub in the South-East.

He explained that recent drops in electricity supply were due to gas shortages and funding challenges within the power sector, though he assured that stakeholders are actively working on solutions.

Okafor also urged customers to apply for prepaid meters, saying installation takes about three weeks, and encouraged residents to report corrupt practices among staff.

Residents at the meeting raised concerns over estimated billing, erratic supply, and alleged extortion, while the company said the engagement was aimed at improving service delivery through feedback.
