VANDALS BRING DOWN POWER TOWER, DISRUPT ELECTRICITY FLOW

Nigeria’s power grid takes another hit as vandals topple a key transmission tower in Delta.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the collapse of Tower T99 along the Ughelli–Benin 330kV transmission line—caused by vandalism.

The damaged tower was discovered during a routine patrol in Delta State after a sudden line trip. Investigations revealed that critical components of the structure had been removed, leading to its collapse. Nearby towers T100 and T101 were also tampered with, though still standing.

The incident has disrupted the evacuation of bulk power from Transcorp Power Plc to the national grid.

TCN says repairs are already underway, with teams mobilised to rebuild and reinforce the affected infrastructure.

The agency, however, raised alarm over the growing threat of vandalism, urging communities to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.

“Protecting power infrastructure is everyone’s responsibility,” TCN stressed.
