TOYIN ABRAHAM MAKES HISTORY, WINS BOX OFFICE CHAMPION AWARD

From actress to record-breaking director—Toyin Abraham hits a billion-naira milestone and takes home a major industry honour.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has honoured Toyin Abraham with a Box Office Champion Award after her film “Over Sabi Auntie” smashed the ₦1 billion mark in cinemas.

The achievement makes her the first debut director in Nollywood to cross the billion-naira box office threshold—a historic moment for the industry.

NFVCB boss Shuaib Husseini described the feat as a testament to Nollywood’s rising global influence and creative strength.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria also praised Abraham’s impact, noting a growing trend of actors evolving into full-scale creators and investors in the film business.

An emotional Abraham dedicated the moment to her husband and team, revealing she took the bold step to direct the film herself after wanting full creative control.

She also teased fans with a promise: something “bigger and better” is coming this December.
