BADAGRY STORY HITS BIG STAGE AS ‘GATEWAY CITY’ LANDS iREP NOD

A powerful documentary on Badagry’s history is heading to one of Africa’s top film festivals.

A documentary titled Gateway City, spotlighting the rich heritage of Badagry in Lagos State, has been selected for a special screening at the 15th iREP International Documentary Film Festival.

Director Viyon Awhanse says the film goes beyond storytelling—blending history, trade, and diplomacy to explore Badagry’s role as a vital gateway city.

The documentary will be screened at the Ecobank Pan-African Centre, drawing attention from policymakers, creatives, and culture enthusiasts.

Produced by the Samuel Mawuyàn Ajose Movement, the film highlights the power of storytelling in driving community impact, education, and cultural preservation.

Backers say Gateway City is not just about the past—it’s about shaping the future and putting Lagos’ historical gems on the global map.
