All South-West states are set to compete in the 7th Bademosi Boys Cricket Championship, happening April 7–11 at Ibadan’s Liberty Stadium, aimed at boosting grassroots cricket.
Coordinator Okon Ukpong said the event will feature training for coaches and team captains on modern techniques to raise performance standards and ensure uniform development across teams. Players will also compete for monetary rewards, encouraging sustained participation.
Ukpong highlighted the lack of government support for cricket in the region, noting that most development is driven by private initiatives, though Oyo State has made some school-level progress. He expressed hope that the new South-West representative on the cricket federation board would push for state backing to grow the sport.
