NIGERIA, UK DEEPEN SECURITY AND ECONOMIC TIES AT WINDSOR SUMMIT

From Windsor Castle to Abuja, both nations reaffirm a partnership built on trade, security, and shared democratic values.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with the United Kingdom, with a strong focus on security cooperation, economic growth, and democratic values.

He made this known at a State Banquet hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle during his official state visit, describing the moment as a renewed symbol of long-standing friendship between both countries.

Tinubu said Nigeria and the UK share deep democratic traditions and must continue working together to promote peace, prosperity, and stronger institutions.

He also highlighted historical legal and governance influences from Britain, noting that Nigeria’s parliamentary, judicial, and civil service systems draw partly from British traditions adapted to local realities.

Beyond government ties, the president stressed the importance of people-to-people connections, praising Nigerians in the UK for their contributions in healthcare, education, business, sports, and public service.

On security, Tinubu emphasised the need for stronger collaboration to tackle terrorism and instability in West Africa and the wider Sahel region, saying partnership with the UK remains vital.

He also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, describing the country as youthful, resilient, and innovation-driven.

In his remarks, King Charles III described Nigeria as an economic powerhouse and cultural force, praising the contributions of Nigerians in the UK across key sectors.

He also acknowledged growing trade and investment ties between both countries, while calling for a future relationship built on trust, cooperation, and shared values.

The banquet, attended by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and senior officials from both sides, ended with a toast to stronger UK–Nigeria relations.
