In the wake of deadly explosions in Maiduguri, the National Youth Council of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind the Federal Government’s decision to move service chiefs to the frontline—calling it a strong step, but not enough on its own.
Reacting to the attacks that claimed over 20 lives, NYCN, through its Interim Chairman Buhari Shehu, praised the swift security response, describing the relocation of military leadership to Maiduguri as timely and necessary.
While commending the action, the council stressed that it must be sustained and backed by a broader strategy to stop future attacks. According to Shehu, proactive measures like stronger intelligence gathering and community-based security efforts are crucial to staying ahead of threats.
He also condemned the explosions, extending condolences to victims’ families and residents affected by the tragedy, noting that no Nigerian should live in fear within their own community.
The youth body urged the government to intensify round-the-clock efforts to protect lives and property, warning that Nigeria’s evolving security challenges demand more coordinated and decisive action.
Shehu further called on young Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies, emphasising that unity and collective responsibility are key to overcoming insecurity.
