AI SET TO REVOLUTIONISE PRINTING, PUBLISHING — YABATECH DON

From faster production to new creative opportunities, Artificial Intelligence is reshaping Nigeria’s print and publishing landscape.

A senior lecturer at Yaba College of Technology, Mrs. Oluwole Funmilayo, says Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to transform Nigeria’s printing and publishing sectors into powerful engines of innovation, job creation, and national growth.

Speaking at the institution’s 22nd inaugural lecture in Lagos, Funmilayo described printing and publishing as “inseparable twins” — with publishing creating content and printing bringing it to life.

According to her, AI is already changing the game — improving print quality, speeding up production, and boosting profitability across the industry. But she stressed the need for training, ethical standards, and clear guidelines to ensure AI is used responsibly.

She encouraged young Nigerians to embrace technology, creativity, and continuous learning through workshops, seminars, and global exposure, noting that the sector offers opportunities for writers, editors, designers, printers, and more.

Funmilayo also pushed for stronger collaboration among stakeholders — from government to publishers and authors — to build a more resilient and globally competitive industry.

In his remarks, Rector Ibraheem Abdul praised the lecture as impactful and forward-looking, highlighting its relevance to education and national development.

Bottom line: AI isn’t replacing the industry — it’s upgrading it.
