Philanthropist and NGO boost inmate welfare with clean water access.
A philanthropist, Alhaji Muhammad Uba-Garba, and the Lovat Foundation have each installed boreholes at two medium-security custodial centres in Jigawa.
Uba-Garba provided the borehole for the Gumel Custodial Centre, while Lovat Foundation equipped the Dutse Custodial Centre, which houses over 800 inmates, with a new water source.
The gesture, timed for Ramadan 2026, aims to improve hygiene, sanitation, and the overall well-being of inmates and staff.
NCoS Spokesman, Muhammad Jahun, described the motorised boreholes as “timely and impactful,” noting that the Dutse centre previously relied on just three functional boreholes—insufficient for its growing population.
The Controller of Corrections in the state, Muhammed Yahya-Fari, praised the donors for supporting correctional reforms and humane custody.
The facilities complement ongoing efforts, including a new mosque built by the World Assembly of Muslim Youths, serving inmates’ spiritual and moral development.
