Experts call for a culture of safety to protect lives and secure the nation
The National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISE), Mr Andrew Abanum, has urged Nigerians to make safety a top priority in daily activities.
Speaking at the investiture of Mr Spencer Itive as Delta Chapter Chairman in Effurun, Warri, Abanum said embracing safety culture is key to building a safer, more secure society.
The event, themed “Engineering Safety for a Secure Nigeria: Empowering Professionals, Ensuring Nationwide Resilience,” highlighted the critical role of engineers in safeguarding lives. Guest speaker Mr Jonathan David of Maintenance Institute Africa stressed that safety is not just an industrial requirement but a national duty.
New chapter chairman Spencer Itive pledged to collaborate with industries, government, and communities to promote safety awareness, regulatory compliance, and practical training in public spaces like motor parks, marketplaces, airports, and jetties.
The ceremony also honoured members and officials for their contributions to safety and professional excellence.
