Union ramps up skills development while cracking down on cultism, bullying, and attacks on teachers
The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, is intensifying teacher training and taking firm legal action against violence in schools.
Chairman Raji Oladimeji said the union has budgeted for regular statutory and non-statutory capacity-building programmes, including ICT-focused workshops and international training opportunities. Some members are set to attend a professional workshop in Accra, Ghana, later this month.
On school safety, Oladimeji stressed that cultism, bullying, and attacks on teachers are unacceptable. NUT actively reports incidents to security agencies and has ongoing court cases to hold perpetrators accountable. A recent case in Afijio LGA saw a teacher’s assailants jailed for six months.
He urged students, parents, teachers, and communities to work together to maintain safe, disciplined learning environments, stressing that protecting schools is a shared responsibility.
