DEFENCE MINISTRY PROMISES STRONGER NAVY SUPPORT, URGES CIVIL-MILITARY UNITY

Ministry pledges closer cooperation to boost Nigeria’s maritime security.

The Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Navy through enhanced support, readiness, and civil-military collaboration.

Speaking during a visit to the Naval Headquarters, Permanent Secretary Richard Pheelangwah praised naval personnel for their professionalism and emphasized the importance of strategic alignment and firsthand insight into operational priorities.

He assured backing in areas such as force readiness, personnel welfare, budget compliance, and human capital development, while stressing the need to boost local defence production and indigenous capacity to support national economic growth.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, thanked the ministry and highlighted critical needs including equipment procurement, infrastructure development, medical personnel recruitment, and project completion.

The visit brought together directors from the ministry and principal staff officers of the navy to reinforce coordination and operational planning.
