What started as a gunfight spiraled into a deadly reprisal attack, leaving communities in mourning.
The Katsina State Government has confirmed that 18 people were killed following a violent clash between vigilantes and suspected bandits in Jibia LGA.
According to the Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasir Muazu, the incident unfolded in Falale and Kadobe villages when local vigilantes engaged some “repentant bandits” in a shootout, killing three suspects.
But the situation quickly escalated. Suspected bandits launched a reprisal attack, leaving 15 more residents dead in the affected communities.
Security forces—including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Civilian Watch, and local leaders—later moved in to contain the violence and restore calm.
Muazu urged residents to stay calm as investigations continue, assuring that the government is committed to justice and preventing further attacks. He also reaffirmed that the administration of Dikko Radda remains focused on securing lives and property across the state.
