No more free entry—visitors must now get approval before stepping into the Oba’s Palace.
The Benin Traditional Council has rolled out stricter security measures around the Palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, citing rising security concerns and the need to protect the palace’s dignity.
Announced in Benin City by council secretary Frank Irabor, the new rules now require all visitors to submit written applications and obtain prior approval before gaining access.
The council also banned loitering and unauthorised movement within the palace grounds. Approved visitors will be issued an official Palace Access Pass, which must be clearly displayed at all times.
Authorities warned that anyone found around the palace without proper clearance will face serious consequences, stressing that the move is necessary to curb abuse of royal hospitality.
The council urged the public to cooperate, noting that the measures are aimed at preserving the tradition, security, and prestige of the Benin Kingdom.
